Our Story

Breaking Data Corp has developed a powerful mobile platform with proprietary IP in advanced search and analysis, intelligent infrastructure services, contextual content services, semantic and machine learning techniques. The platform allows us to process, analyze and interpret unstructured data in real-time, in order to extract sentiment, facts, user interests and intent.

On top of the platform, we build mobile applications focused on the search and discovery of news, products, places and people on mobile devices.

…and we also provide access to the Platform to developers through APIs and SDKs.

Our Products

Breaking Data Corp. is a technology provider of semantic search, local mobile search for consumers and businesses.  The Company’s newest app, BreakingSports utilizes semantic and machine learned language to track social media in fully automated, real-time for significant sports information and events and distribute summarized information through real-time push notifications to consumers.  The Company also enables mobile application providers to generate revenue into their apps via its “Poynt-Enabled” SDK and owns Poynt, a local mobile search app.

Our Research and Development group includes Data Scientists, Researchers with PhDs in Semantic Technologies and senior Engineers with more than 20 years experience building carrier-grade solutions that are still in use.

Executive Bios


Marvin Igelman – CEO

Marvin Igelman ventured into the technology field in 1996 and successfully founded Brandera Inc., a publicly traded company, where he served as its President and CEO operating Portfolios.com, a leading online business-to business site for the Graphic Arts and creative community. Following the 2002 sale of Portfolios.com, Mr. Igleman served as a business development consultant for numerous technology companies, and established a number of other successful ventures including funding and serving as CEO of Unomobi Inc., a mobile advertising and messaging platform that was acquired in 2010 by Poynt Corporation. Mr. Igelman joined the Poynt Corporation executive team and Board of Directors, serving as its Chief Strategy Officer until June 2011. Mr. Igelman also serves on the Board of Directors for both American Apparel Inc. and Jamba Inc. Mr. Igelman graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1986, becoming a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1988.

Alex Zivkovic – CTO
Alex brings a special combination of advanced technology and hands-on management experience in the development of advanced intelligent software applications. As founding partner and CEO of Intellimerce Inc., Alex directed the design, development and deployment of custom software solutions in various fields for international clients such as Dun & Bradstreet Canada, LMI and Marsh & McLennan. Alex was the visionary behind open source business intelligence tools that are currently used by thousands of developers worldwide and by various fortune 500 companies and sits on the XML/A council with Microsoft, SAS and Hyperion. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Engineering and a Masters in Process Control & Automation for work in artificial intelligence.

David Berman – CFO
Since graduating from York University’s Schulich School of Business in 1983 with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree, David has worked as a financial consultant and chief financial officer for both private and TSX Venture public companies. He brings and extensive scope of experience, knowledge and expertise in several technology fields that include online image technology, portal development, wireless and mobile applications and carrier grade mobile solutions, compliance technology, sales and marketing online solutions and recurring & licensing internet service models.

Charles F. Theiss - Executive Consultant & Advisor
Charles has more than thirty years of professional experience serving in key senior executive management positions and advisory roles with well known legacy and digital media brands.  He is an outside-the-box thinker who enjoys building new business models designed to help shape the future success of his clients.  For the last fourteen years, Charles has leveraged research, analytics and industry insights to create value for his clients.  He established a two tiered business consulting practice with a focus on integrated media solutions.  These assignments range from a concentration on business development, strategic alliances and escalating advertising sales revenue.

He has developed and implemented highly successful new business assignments with his structured and disciplined approach. Driving a deal to execution not only requires identifying a critical sequence of activities and milestones, but also lining up the resources and tools to achieve them.  His client experience includes Fox Interactive Media, CBS Television Station Group, OK Magazine, WeatherNation, MAVTV, The Sportsnetwork, The College Board, Lucas Oil, The Fred Rogers Company, RightMedia, KlowdTV, Screenvision Cinema Network, The Film Detective, V-Me Television, Real Savvy Moms, and others.

Serving as a senior executive with well known media organizations, he launched the wireless platform “CNN Everywhere”, re-launched the CBS Television Station’s websites, developed Looksmart’s “Find Articles”, reorganized Lycos’ advertising sales management and staff, and re-launched the MavTV cable network. At CNN, he served as Senior Vice President of television advertising sales and was promoted to manage CNN’s Digital advertising sales, business development and ad operations.  He has held senior leadership positions with Terra Lycos, Looksmart, and FX overseeing their business development and advertising sales. He began his career working in the advertising agency business, moving into cable network affiliate relations and advertising sales at Group W Satellite Communications. Charles graduated Magna Cum Laude from Iona College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and economics.

Deborah Richman - Product and Strategy Head
Debby serves as head of product and strategy. She has held executive roles at technology and information-based companies, including Dun & Bradstreet, Nielsen, Starz Media, Overstock, About.com and Looksmart. Debby brings 20+ years of experience launching, turning around and growing digital presence for brands and end-users. She relishes translating leading edge technology into practical, user-friendly mobile products. Ms. Richman received her Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College, and MBA from Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School of Business Administration.
